New Year's

so today is the last day of 2007. this year has really passed by in a blink of an eye. in 2007,

i have done so many things.

i have achieved so much.

i have gone beyond my expectations.

i have made so many new friends.

THIS, is my life of 2007~

in conclusion, i have explored a whole new world altogether. and it is only by the grace of God that i was able to do all of this. so thank you GOD for preparing the way for me and for blessing me with so much. i am not lucky, i am blessed. make that over flowingly blessed.

i remember today, a year ago. things were so different, where i only had one world; one i had known all my life and had been so comfortable in. maybe that was why i looked forward to going to melbourne. leaving home wasn't huge issue with me. maybe it was cuz i had known all along that one day, i would go overseas to study. maybe it was cuz the prospects of having a new life were really appealing. maybe i was just really curious. but whatever the reason was, there were no tears the day i left for melbourne.

i never really thought about what my life there would be like. i just knew that i was gonna have a new life and that I was determined to make it a good one. i only hit reality on my first day of school. since in the b/h was filled with Asians, my first day of school overwhelmed me. my whole year level consisted of less than 20 asians and I was the only new girl that year. Practically none of the locals bothered to talk to me assuming I couldn’t speak English and none of the boarders willingly spoke to me since I only spoke English. It was then that I realized that school life was going to be a challenge. My classes were a nightmare for the first 3-4weeks since every class I was in seemed to have only 1 or 2 asian students. And every class had different classmates making my social life almost next to nothing. Initially, I took English and struggled so much that I gave up and switched to ESL, took methods and eventually gave up on that too and switched to further maths and dropped biology cuz I had learnt everything in form 5 except in BM. So my whole timetable changed with my subjects and from then on, my nightmares disappeared. Coupled with the fact that I already had lotsa friends in the b/h, my life eased completely after receiving my new timetable. I had business with andy, further maths with Edison, andy, bruce, silas and shannon and esl with all the Asians in my year making that 3 out of 5 classes with buddies. I didn’t mind being alone in history since my fellow classmates were warm towards me and mrs morgan always made me forget my loneliness anyway. The one class I still hated was health where I resorted to wikipedia and unfinished homework during the whole period as to avoid appearing tragic. Initially, I paid full attention to my teacher but lost all due respect for him when he pointed to phillipines on the map and called it JAPAN and couldn’t really tell where in asia, china was. I had always loved going to school since form 3. but I exceptionally loved going to school at TPS. I love the environment, the familiarity, how everyone knows almost everyone and how teachers treat you as their friends and pay special attention to every single student.

School life aside, boarding life is simply awesome. It is incomparable. IMO, the 4 of us are damn 重名。We have been going over to the boy’s every single day after school since term 1;something no one has ever done before. And what the 5 of us have is just damn 正。We are closer than close friends can ever be; the reason being cuz we live together. We see each other 24/7, eat every single meal together, sleep together, laugh and cry together, hate and love the same people and go everywhere together. Boarding life is what makes school life so much more fun. It is what makes everyone look forward to recess and lunchtime where the library is our ‘lepak’ (待着) place and where we practically dominate.

When I look back at 2007, all I see is awesomeness. Everything in 2007 was just beautiful. I fell in love with life at TPS. In my 18 years of life, the 18th year was the best ever. Thank you God for blessing me with so much.

so with the new year, another new life begins;only this time, it is an even bigger challenge = uni

this year i have been part of the eldest, most mature, most looked up to and most respected in school. next year, i will be among the youngest, freshest, most innocent and naive at uni.

no matter what course i received and accept next monday, i vow to give it my very best.

no matter how much life may change next year, i vow to always have time for my friends still at TPS.

no matter how tough life may be, i vow to come out at the other side still standing strong no matter how many cuts or bruises i may acquire along the way.

no matter what other people may think of me, i vow to cherish my characteristics and be proud of them.

so as i leave behind the world of TPS in 2007 with its T block, my strategic locker, year 12, library, my T9 tutor room, senior school, tuckshop, ansett hall, ovals, new gym, deliveries room, boarding houses, games room, my room, badminton trainings, frankston, frankston beach, frankston trains, buses, trips to the city and back, homestay, never-changing weekday routines, weekends, friday and saturday nights, after schools, winter and summer uniforms and classes, my life continues as i venture into the unknown world of uni.

may 2008 be another unforgettable year~

HK Update

i arrived in Hong Kong on the evening of the 26th and had dinner with relatives that nite.

the next day, raymond and i met up with kristy, danny, vincent and silas. kelsey and alex went to disneyland. we went to:

~ice skate
~shop

~eat 'che jai min'

~walk around mongkok

~watch evan almighty in my hotel room (plus meet my mum :P)

~eat a steamboat dinner

*where vinny's face turned bright red cuz he ate too much chilli..

and then everyone went back while i stayed overnight at kristy's!

on the 28th, danny, alex and kelsey came over to kristy's place for a lunch bbq.

then we went:

~shopping at causeway bay

*i got a new handbag

*danny got a new sweater as part of his 'makeover'

~dinner at this taiwanese place

vin:"i guess this is the last time we'll ever sit down like this and talk, rite?"

me:"no la, there's still next year..."

vin:"but next year you won't be with us"

me:"come on la, i'll still come back! you guys can come to the city, i can back to frankston"

kristy:"yehh of course in the beginning but after that........."

me:"don't worry, i'll still come back. anyway andy will still come back and i can go with him"

vin:"but it just won't be the same la"

[vin, you are so right but i will never forget you guys or what we have together as closer than close friends]

*saw old couples PDA-ing, suspected them of having an affair

*saw people making out in public

~walked back to wan chai station at about 9.30pm and everyone headed back home
*danny sent kristy

*vinny took a bus

at 8.30am on the 29th, kristy, danny and i met in wan chai:

~had porridge breakfast

~went to danny's hotel to get his luggage

*hung out at the lobby for awhile

*laughed at this dumb couple at the lift

~taxi-ed to hongkong/central station

*checked danny into airport express

*hung out for about an hour before danny took the airport express

~danny finally left, kristy went to her dad's and i went back to check out

*hugged and hugged and hugged somemore

met alex back in the hotel. left for the airport at 12.30noon. left for KL at 3.20pm.

altho we only hung out for 2 whole days and a morning after not seeing each other for almost 1 month, it felt like we had never left australia.

edison left this morning, so last nite we went out to dinner with him at yoyogi.. kinda had to rush a lil cuz the rest had to get back before 7.. we yr 12s drank sake..

goodbye edison.. we will meet again next year. take care and remember to come back.

had celebration evening on wednesday night at monash clayton.. kristy got year 8 VCD award, crystal got year 11 ESL award, i got year 12 ESL award, ruby got badminton award, alif got badminton award, harriman got soccer award and jaeho got winter tennis award.. it was the last chance for me to wear my winter uniform.

went to milkbar and playground on tuesday.. got in touch with the inner kids inside of us.. haha.. had games of ibu ayam and ice and water.. haha.. the best part was when everyone played along..

dinner at La Porchetta for Jaeho, Harriman, Andy, Edison, Arthas and My farewell with the gang.. it was a memorable night.. went to the beach later on and the sunset was beautiful.. it's one of those rare nights where we just have fun altogether outside school..VCE ended yesterday for me.. means i have officially ended school.. 感觉很难过。it's uni next yr.. what will life be like a year from now? i will never ever forget my time at TPS. 我爱你们。

i was very proud of my speech as the first of the girls at the boarders' valedictory dinner. considering i wrote it all by myself unlike the rest, i think i did an extremely good job. here it is.
Good evening Mr. Hille, Mr. Doll, teachers, staff and fellow friends. As I stand here today, I recall how only a year ago, I knew that I was to come all the way here from Malaysia to do Year 12. I looked forward to this adventure and had welcomed this fresh start to a new chapter in life. When I arrived, I had no trouble adapting and settling in to the lifestyle and routine of the boarding house. It may seem bizarre to some of you but I instantly loved it. The sounds of laughter and chatter every day with people rushing around the house, some hysterical, some comical, combined with the usual bustling of the boarding house have become music to my ears. Every morning, I have woken up with great anticipation for the new day ahead and looked forward to what ever surprises that very day might bring. Each day has been wonderful, and everyday has brought me great joy.

In my time here, I have made many good friends and living with them proved to be a new experience every single day. The boarding house enables all boarders, both boys & girls, to meet and the wonderful opportunity to make many new friends from different countries. Living with friends on school grounds makes going to school all the more fun. As we do not have parents to go home to, we learn to rely on each other in ways other people cannot even begin to comprehend. To break it down simply, my friends and I are family. Coming here to the boarding house has made me grow up a little more. I have learnt to be more independent, patient, and mature in my time here. More importantly, I have learnt how to live in harmony with 18 different other girls all under one roof. Tolerance, is the key word here. *SMILE* My experience here has been pretty smooth most of the time. I rarely suffered from homesickness, or had major conflicts or upsetting events. It has been relatively easy sliding into the routine of the boarding house and I do believe that I have adapted well. I have been very blessed to have a great support group of girlfriends who have supported and stood by me at all times. Together, we have discovered common interests and passions in life. But having said that, living with 18 other girls in the same building is a constant daily challenge to keep relationships on an even balance.

Today, as I stand before you here, I am proud to declare that I am graduating from The Peninsula School. It seemed only days ago that I had arrived at the front gates of this school with my family, ready for a fresh start. Looking back, I deeply regret only having one year here.

As I conclude, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone here who has in one way or another had an impact on my life. I would also like to express my thanks to all my boarding friends whom are special to me. To my very very close and special boarding mates both boys & girls [you all know who you are!], my heartfelt THANK YOUs for our wonderful friendships. YOU are my friends for life! I will forever treasure the times we had, and will recall all the wonderful memories throughout my life. It means more to me than you will ever know… I also thank all the teachers and staff who have greatly assisted in easing me into boarding and school life here.

Last but not least, I will leave you with a little piece of my life. If you were to ask me what my most memorable experience here was, I would tell you that everyday HERE has been my greatest & most memorable experience. Thank you. *I would now like to ask Tammy to come forward to address you all.
